but why? there are many reasons to hate it, but you also have to specify: the originals or the new ones? the new ones are hilariously bad. the old ones i liked...shhh.

I hate all of them. I have only seen the old ones and only bits and pieces of the new ones because I hate the old ones so much. Dumb story line, dumb graphics, dumb dumb dumb. oh dumb costumes too!

People, this is coming from a person that watches 'The Nine'... and likes it. Can we really trust her opinions about good movies and television? I think not.

well star wars as a whole is a little hard to tackle. its six movies, for god's sakes, not a 30 second commercial spot!

Maybe I can get the ball rolling on why Star Wars is great...

1) It has everything! Like action and adventure? Star Wars can provide that. Like Romance? How about Han and Lea? They fall in love. Like drama? How more dramatic can it get?! Luke's nemesis is his father. Like movies with happy endings? Luke blowing up the death star and saving the galaxy should be a reason to celebrate. Like cartoon movies? The muppets are close enough, and they also provide good comic relief. Not to mention the movies are also a coming of age story, a story about a bad guy gone soft, a movie about respecting forces (The Force) greater than yourself, and they have really cute Ewoks.

2) They have great special effects for the time in which they were made. This is more specific to the original three (now called 4, 5, and 6), as episodes one through three used too much CG animation and kinda sucked. Come on, Luke travels in a hover craft! You take a regular old camera out into the desert and make it look like somebody is riding in a hover craft. And those walking robot things on the Ewok planet? Suffice it to say that they are pretty awesome, too.

3) R2D2 and C3PO. 'Nough said.

I will end the list there for now because I am sure I could list many more reasons. Basically, the old triology is just awesome. The new triology is decent, but nothing to brag about.

the story is fabulous. its basically a ripoff of the new testament (and christianity wouldnt be so darn catchy without great stories). luke=jesus. Fr. Lucas taught my visual theology class this freshman year.now that ive actually seen the movies, i totally agree.

but the CGI add-ons (really obviously in the original ones ...newly remastered) are awful.

i think my biggest problem with it is all the futuristic, bad special effects, dorktastic stuff, maybe if you strip that all away I wouldn't want to laugh at it uncontrollably.

seriously christina, i dont think either of us can really criticize something for being 'dorktastic'. and the special effects were awesome for the time, and not too shabby even now.

okay, okay dorktastic is the wrong word, not dorktastic, sci-fi, i hate sci-fi! okay i am dorky in a quirky, artsy way, not in the let me whip out my TI-83 and play calculator games on it kind of way, as star wars is.

Hey! I played games on my calculator! And it was a TI-83 plus, thank you very much.

And the original Star Wars trilogy still rules.
